Hib Hib Hooray
published by: Stephanie T.Accuracy is everything when it comes to maintaining your patient records. Entering the correct vaccine type can make all the difference - from setting up the immunization schedule to preventing duplicate records in Florida SHOTS.
The vaccine type that tends to cause the most confusion is the Hib vaccine (Haemophilus influenzae type b). The two most commonly used Hib vaccines are the three-dose PedvaxHIB (PRP-OMP) and the four-dose ActHIB (PRP-T). Other Hib vaccines that are no longer used or used outside the United States, including HibTITER (HBOC), are included in Florida SHOTS enabling you to accurately input the vaccine type on an older patient’s record or for a patient who received the vaccine in another country.
To enter a vaccine in Florida SHOTS, select the proper vaccine type from the drop down menu on the Add Vaccination Record screen. The vaccines are presented by their common name rather than brand name, as are most vaccines in Florida SHOTS. If you cannot recall the generic name and it’s not listed in the patient’s chart, consult the Florida SHOTS User’s Guide under the Customer Support menu. Appendix E contains the Vaccine Information Table which lists the Florida SHOTS name along with the brand name of every vaccine you can add to a patient’s record.
