Would You Like Your Vaccine Child-Sized?

Flu vaccine is given in both a pediatric dosage - 0.25 ml - and an adult dosage - 0.5 mil. These doses are listed separately in Florida SHOTS as Vaccine Type CHILD-FLU for children under the age of three and INFLUENZA for adults.

For all flu administrations using products other than FluMist, make sure the VIS vaccine type is set as “inactive flu.” This can be done by clicking the “Other VIS Options” button underneath the VIS Date text box if the correct VIS is not displayed.

At this time, Flumist is the only Live Attenuated (LAIV) vaccine offered in Florida SHOTS for influenza. This vaccine should only be given to healthy, non-pregnant people ages 2-49 years according to the CDC. For this vaccine, make sure “live flu” is selected for the VIS form.

Selecting the right flu vaccine type - CHILD-FLU or INFLUENZA - will help maintain the accuracy of records in the Florida SHOTS registry. Check your office records to determine which vaccine was administered. Generally, if you’re adding to the record of a child who is under the age of three, select CHILD-FLU to reflect the correct vaccine given.
